Impressive History

Fraser Island has lent itself to the human species for as long as 5,000 years, so it knows what it’s doing and the chances of you leaving unsatisfied are slim. Many people will choose to visit Fraser Island for its impressive history. Others are simply curious as to why it is a World Heritage site. Put plainly, Fraser Island possesses a lot of cultural value and geographical significance. It is home to the indigenous Butchulla people, who refer to the island as ‘K’gari’, which translates to ‘paradise’. It is also considered a giant landmass, comprising 184,000 hectares of land and more than 250 kilometres of beaches. It is also ecologically sound, having a remarkable network of ecosystems and a diverse range of flora and fauna. These are just a few reasons it is recognised as a World Heritage site.

Fun Activities

Fraser Island is famous for both its fishing and its attractiveness to four-wheel-drivers. With its incredibly long beaches, fishing can be done all year round without any trouble, and boats are usually launched in between the Indian Head and Waddy Point for the great range of rock species its waters have to offer. As you might have already guessed by now, it is the long strips of land that make Fraser perfect for 4WDing. Its 75-Mile Beach includes a highway that passes through rainforest tracks and onto the surf, giving you stunning views to take in along the way. Of course, swimming is perfectly acceptable too, what with it being an exotic island and all.
