Trudy recently put together this awesome video.
Throughout the year of our expat life rocking it up in “Roffa” (Rotterdam, baby!) we rode a lot of bicycles. Like, a lot. Well, for Aussies anyway. I think from Dutch standards we rode a normal amount of bicycles. Between the two of us I think we owned and rode five bicycles throughout our time in Rotterdam. Trudy even won one on TV.

It’s fun to explore Europe whilst we are based here in Rotterdam, but it’s also nice to adventure around The Netherlands itself… as we discovered on a little trip to a place you may have heard of already, the Kinderdijk!
You know how Holland is famous for its traditional and historic windmills (amongst other things)? Well this is largely due to this stretch of mills known as the Kinderdijk.

The cool thing about living right in the city is that we can witness festivities and action right from our balcony. Of course sometimes we love to get involved, but at other times we are relaxing at home after a hard day’s work.
It was a warm summer’s night and we had an Australian friend visiting us for a few days’, “It’s Wednesday” we told her, “that means it’s Skate Night!”

It’s difficult to imagine life in The Netherlands without an abundance of bicycles everywhere you look. Parked in front of the supermarket, sprawled in the parks on sunny days, chained at the train station in snow and wind… no matter the weather or the elements, bikes both old, vintage and new are found everywhere you look.
Coming from Australia it’s refreshing, because in Australia riding on the road...
